The joy of a new mother was shortlived Tuesday in Lokoja as her new born baby girl was stolen by an unknown woman who had posed as a relation.
The mother, Mrs Fatima Musa who was delivered of the baby through caesarian section was jolted when she suddenly discovered that her two-day-old baby girl was stolen from her bedside while she was asleep at about 7a.m. on Tuesday.
Daily Sun gathered that the mother raised alarm on the theft, attracting staff and sympathisers at the Federal Medical Center where the baby was born and plunging the entire hospital into confusion.
According to hospital sources, the fleeing child thief had been so close to the victim even during the caesarian operation, which made people to believe that she was her relation.
The father, Musa Ejutu who looked confused appealed to members of the public to volunteer information that could lead to the arrest of the fleeing woman to the nearest police station.
The woman is said to be slim and fair in complexion.
Confirming the story, the Police Public Relation Officer, Mr. Ambrose Igbokwe said detectives had swung into action to bring the culprit to book.
