President Umaru Yar'Adua Friday in Abuja, decorated his Aide-De-Camp (ADC), Lieutenant-Colonel Mustapha Onoyiveta with his new rank of Colonel.

President Umaru Yar'Adua Friday in Abuja, decorated his Aide-De-Camp (ADC), Lieutenant-Colonel Mustapha Onoyiveta with his new rank of Colonel.

Also decorated were two other officers of the Brigade of Guards Command, Abdullahi Ibrahim and Ayo Orukutan, both promoted to Lieutenant-Colonels from their former rank of Major.

Assisted by Vice-President Goodluck Jonathan, who arrived the country from pilgrimage to Jerusalem the previous night, the president congratulated Onoyiveta and urged him to work harder so as to 'make the rank of General."

The Chief of Staff to the President, Major-General Abdullahi Mohammed (Rtd), in his brief remark on the occasion, explained that the decoration, which ought to have been held on December 24, was delayed to allow the vice president and the ADC's wife, Hajia Hassanna Mustapha, to return from Jerusalem and Hajj respectively.

He said there are usually five memorable events in the career of an officer namely commissioning as a cadet; promotion to captain, colonel, Brigadier (One-Star General) and finally for the lucky few, Four-Star General.

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Owoeye Azazi, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Luka Yusuf, the Director-General, State Security Services (SSS), and principal officers of the president were all present on the occasion in the Presidential Villa.
