Dare-devil armed robbers on Thursday struck at an old generation bank in Ido-Ani area of Ose Local Government Area, in Ondo State, killing a policeman, a customer and injuring three others.
Dare-devil armed robbers on Thursday struck at an old generation bank in Ido-Ani area of Ose Local Government Area, in Ondo State, killing a policeman, a customer and injuring three others.
While the customer was shot within the bank premises, the policeman was shot dead at the Ido-Ani Police station by the robbers who fired sporadically, shortly after carrying out their operation at the bank.
Two other policemen also reportedly sustained gunshot injuries in the process.
The robbery gang, numbering seven, was said to have invaded the bank around 9.30 am and carted away an undisclosed amount of money in an operation which lasted for some minutes.
Narrating the incident to Daily Sun, one of the customers, who witnessed the incident said the men of the underworld shot sporadically immediately they alighted from their car in front of the bank.
He said the robbers asked all the people in the banking hall to lie face down and demanded the key to the strongroom.
According to him, the hoodlums, in the process, shot one of the customers, who died instantly.
For several minutes the operation lasted, the ever busy road, where the bank is located, was deserted by people who ran for cover. Security operatives attached to the bank were tied up by the robbers.
When contacted, the image-maker of the state police's command, Mr. Adeniran Aremu, said he had not been properly briefed by men of the Ido Ani Police Division.
Two persons were shot dead while several others were seriously injured on December 4 at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) when some armed robbers invaded two banks located within the campus.
Also, three robbers invaded the depot office of Maltex in Akure on November 27 and carted away unspecified amount of money. Two of the robbers were killed by the police while the third one escaped with the money
