Ex-Gov Nnamani is broke - Aide

Aide to Dr. Chimaroke Nnamani, the immediate past governor of Enugu state, Mr Ray Nnaji has said that the former Enugu helmsman is broke.

Aide to Dr. Chimaroke Nnamani, the immediate past governor of Enugu state, Mr Ray Nnaji has said that the former Enugu helmsman is broke.

Nnaji, who was commissioner for sport in the Nnamani administration said his boss was facing hard times financially, due largely to the harassment he was receiving from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The former governor is standing trial in Lagos over allegation of corrupt practices and money laundering while ruling the state between 1999 and 2007

'He is broke. He is living on Charity. He is broke. Where do you expect him to get money when EFCC is following him left, right and centre and the person he puts in office, Sulivan Chime, is adding salt to the injury, by making sure that the man is incarcerated so that he will succeed in doing what he wants to do in Enugu State", he said.

The former commissioner spoke to newsmen in Abuja on the travails of the former governor and last local government elections in the country.
He described the recent Local Government Election in Enugu State as a 'Sham", and the worst in the history of the state. He however advised those who felt cheated in the process, and are aggrieved not to take laws into their hands but take solace in the tribunal which has been dispensing justice across the federation.

'I appeal to them not to worry as the election itself will soon be declared a nullity. My advice to those who felt cheated in Enugu State over the Local Government Election, is that they should wait until the election tribunal comes out to nullify the governor Chime's election," he said, adding that 'if the tribunal nullifies his election, all acts performed by the governor would become null and void, including the Local Government elections".

Speaking on the administration of President Umaru Yar'Adua, the PDP cheiftain was of the opinion that President Yar'Adua is not enjoying his office because he is overwhelmed by the problems he found on the ground.

'Yar'Adua is in trouble. It is only our prayers that will set him free because I know what the man is going through." The said, adding 'the President is passing through terrible experience. He is not enjoying his office because of what he has witnessed, what he has seen on ground.

'It is not what he contemplated. I must have to tell you. That is why he cannot help the system. They say a tree cannot make a forest. President Yar'Adua alone cannot change much in the country. Even some of these intellectuals are now beginning to have a rethink. There minds are being poisoned by old horses, who are bad."
