Speaker of House of Representatives, Honourable Dimeji Bankole, on Wednesday assured Nigerians that he would be a listening and supportive speaker who will never rock the boat.

The speaker gave the assurance while speaking with newsmen shortly after paying a courtesy visit on the paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Aremu Gbadebo, in his palace at Ake, Abeokuta Ogun State.

Responding to a question on the type of speaker he would be, Dimeji said, 'I wish to be a listening, supportive speaker, who will be ready to work for the progress of the country. I wish to be a good ambassador of my state, Ogun and also to continue to do more for my constituency."

On the allegation that some ministries and government agencies kept over N300 billion in their budget, the speaker said the allegation is being looked into by the house committee responsible, adding that after the investigations, the House would know what to do.

The speaker, who was in his constituency to celebrate with his father while reacting to the incessant traffic bottlenecks being experienced by motorists along Lagos-Sagamu express way, urged motorists not to constitute themselves into nuisance by obeying all traffic rules and regulations, and also cooperate with the police and officials of the FRSC.

He, however, assured the people of Ogun and other road users along Lagos-Abeokuta road to exercise patience, adding that the road would soon be completed, as according to him, the Federal Government is doing everything possible to ensure that it is completed within a spate of time."

Earlier, the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Aremu Gbadebo had prayed for him to succeed as the number four citizen of the country, while he called on the executive and the legislative arms to always work hand in hand to better the lots of the people.

Meanwhile, the leadership and members of the House of Representatives have urged Nigerians to imbibe the spirit of selfless service in the interest of the country.
A statement by the House Committee Chairman on Media and Public Affairs, Hon. Eziuche Ubani said, 'as we celebrate during this joyful season, it is important to reiterate the fact for all Muslims and indeed all Nigerians to imbibe the lesson of total submission to the will of Allah, which was exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim, who willingly obeyed the command to offer as sacrifice his only son, Ismaila, when he was required to do so.

'We must all endeavour as a matter of life style to submit to the will of Allah and cultivate virtues of love, tolerance and peaceful co-existence in our relationship with others." The abiding lesson of this season is that when we are selfless, tolerant and caring, we would be able to build the necessary consensus to begin to tackle the problems of Nigeria. No nation develops unless its people learn to make sacrifices in the interest of the community and country."

'At this stage of our development, it is important for us to ask Allah to guide our leaders aright, to serve with integrity, selflessness and commitment. We in the House of Representatives will continue to do our best to provide leadership, based on these virtues."
