Strange objects damage Aero airplane engine


An Aero aircraft, Boeing 737-300 with registration 5N-BHY yesterday sucked in a foreign object on landing at the runway of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, causing serious damage to the right wing engine.

The Managing Director of the airline, Mr. Koen Neven said the aircraft was returning from Accra, Ghana at about 3pm when the incident happened.

According to him, 'virtually all the front blades of the engine were damaged while the engine cowling was punctured in several places," adding that further inspections are being carried out by the airline's engineers to determine the extent of damage.

He disclosed that 'some flights would be delayed while some would be outrightly cancelled due to the grounding of the aircraft, pending the completion of repairs."

Recently Aero has lost close to N100 million for replacing and repairing damaged engines due to bird strikes on three of its aircraft in the last six weeks.
