Former Delta State Governor, Chief James Onanefe Ibori is to be remanded in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) until next Wednesday, December 17, when a ruling on his bail application will be made.
This was the decision of a Federal High Court in Kaduna on Thursday. Operatives of the EFCC on Wednesday in Abuja arrested the former governor on money laundering related charges. He was arraigned at the Federal High Court, Kaduna, Kaduna State where a court warrant was executed on him.
Ibori, the immediate past governor of Delta State, ruled the state from 1999 to 2007 before handing over the reins of power to the incumbent governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan. He played a prominent role in the emergence of President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua. His wife, Nkoyo, was arrested a couple of months ago by the British Metropolitan Police for similar offences, she has since been granted bail.
