The first Election petition panel in Osogbo, Osun state yesterday dismissed two applications for additional witnesses separately filed by the Action Congress House of Assembly candidates to contest their defeat in the April polls in Ife East and Ife South state constituencies.
Counsel for the Action Congress sought the leave of the tribunal to call additional witnesses and to file the written depositions of the witnesses.
Each of the two applications was supported with affidavits and written addresses.
The defence counsel of the PDP, the Police and the INEC opposed the two applications with affidavits and written addresses.
In its unanimous ruling, the tribunal Chairman, Justice Thomas Naron rejected the applications for additional witnesses by the AC litigants on the ground that the petitioners had not indicated that they faced compelling circumstances necessitating calling the additional witnesses which could make the tribunal to accede to their requests.
