A member of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Hon. Abiodun Ogunbi, from Akoko South-West is now in a coma following the crisis that rocked the Assembly on Tuesday over the list of the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODSIEC).
Daily Sun gathered that Ogunbi, the only Alliance for Democracy (AC) member was allegedly hit with a substance suspected to be a charm by one of his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) counterparts.
According to eye-witness account, trouble started when Ogunbi moved a motion for the continuation of the debate on the controversial composition of ODSIEC.
As soon as Ogunbi raised the motion for the continuation of the debate, the PDP member reportedly rose and challenged him on the motion.
In the ensuing shouting match, the enraged PDP member hit Ogunbi and he instantly slumped and started bleeding.
He consequently fainted and was rushed to the hospital.
Giving another version of the incident, the Deputy Speaker, Mayowa Folarin, from Odigbo absolved the culprit of any wrongdoing in the alleged attack on Ogunbi.
He alleged that most opposition members were already drunk before they got to the House with the aim of fomenting trouble.
He accused Ogunbi of attempting to carry the mace, the symbol of authority of the House during which he fell down in the process.
The deputy speaker threatened that Ogunbi and other persons found culpable in the crisis would be severely sanctioned.
Tension now mounts in the capital city as anxiety filled the air over the condition of Ogunbi.
When Daily Sun got to the Liberty Hospital at Oluwatuyi area of Akure, it was gathered that doctors were still battling to revive Ogunbi, who was brought to the hospital by other opposition members, mostly from the Labour Party (LP).
However, a new dimension was introduced into the crisis as police men fully armed took over the entrance of the House of Assembly and prevented the returning LP members from entering.
