The Teacher Pensioners Association of Nigeria (TEPAN), has called on the Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) to liaise with the Federal Government on its behalf to ensure that all the accumulated arrears of its members are paid.
The Lagos State Chairman of the association, Mr. Afolabi Isaac Folagbade made this appeal on behalf of his association recently, when the body hosted the governor.
Commending the governor for its positive pronouncements regarding the pensioners in the state, Folagbade said the association would give the administration the benefit of the doubt, even as they expect a brighter and rewarding future from his government.
'Your Excellency, teacher pensioners' case should be like that of the folklore story dog, who kept his father while others killed theirs. The dog and his father later got compensated for wisdom and wealth of experience. As fathers and nation builders, we ask for a brighter rewarding future from your government, on all areas of our demand, which we have already forwarded to your office."
While the body, is of the opinion that standard or educational progress may not be compared with the colonial era system, it however, proffered that the governor should set up a serious minded committee comprising of some teacher pensioners to go round the state institutions, primary and secondary schools for fact finding.
