Embattled retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Yekini Jimoh, who is facing murder charge before Kwara State Magistrate's Court, sitting in Ilorin, will continue to remain in prison.

Jimoh was arraigned before Chief Magistrate, Moses Adegbite by the police, following his alleged shooting to death of his wife on October 23, 2007 at Amir Suite and Hotel, Ilorin.
The hope of early reprieve for the former police chief was foreclosed on Thursday following the absence of the trial magistrate, who was said to have proceeded on his annual leave. He will not resume from vacation until February next year, investigation further revealed.

As a result, no date has been fixed for the continuation of his trial. However, Daily Sun gathered that the magistrate's court may have little or nothing to do in the determination of the accused's fate as it has no jurisdiction to try the offence of murder which the former police boss is entangled with.
Consequently, Daily Sun gathered that the accused may soon be arraigned before a state High Court when the Director of Public Prosecution‘s advice is ready.

The counsel to the accused, Tunde Olemo told journalists that the chief magistrate made all efforts to sit on Thursday as a result of how important the case was, but could not make it.

He said what stopped the magistrate was because he went for a lecture. He said: 'He promised to come today, but he could not make it. He went for a lecture. For now, we do not have a new date for hearing.
'We will ask for a new date. It is a pity that my client would continue to be in detention pending when the new date we would ask for would come. We are dealing with the law.''
