A man accused of being a witch and who managed to escape the throes of death in Anglabiri in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State has surfaced in Yenagoa to tell his tale.
A man accused of being a witch and who managed to escape the throes of death in Anglabiri in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State has surfaced in Yenagoa to tell his tale.
The man (name withheld) who reported the case of his triumph over impending death to the police revealed how he and four others who refused to confess to acts of witchcraft were apprehended by some powerful elements within the community and accused of using their alleged evil powers to stop oil production activities.
Apparently the man and his alleged associates had been found guilty and sentenced to death by fire.
But they had only one option to escape death - confession.
He is said to have narrated how the other four who now rest in the belly of the surrounding rivers were burnt to death because of their refusal to accept they were witches.
The victim said on seeing the possibility of losing his life under such horrific circumstances confessed to being a witch.
At that point, he explained, the fire of death was extinguished, but by which time he had been severely burnt.
According to him, pleas to leave the community to treat himself of burns were rejected, with his accusers said to have told him not step foot outside the community
Faced with a ban, he is believed to have resorted to local treatment techniques to stay alive.
Some how, he found a chance to escape and allegedly made it to Warri in Delta State.
From Delta, the man finally surfaced in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa capital to narrate his ordeal.
What step the police have taken is not yet known.
But the tale is said to be causing a stir in Bayelsa circles as many marvel over the hunt for alleged witches at Anglabiri.
