...His victory good for democracy -Edo Gov

Edo State Governor, Prof Osariehmen Osunbor has described the Supreme Court's judgment that ousted former Rivers State Governor, Celestine Omehia from office as a good development meant to strengthen the nation's democratic institution.

• Says I inherited over N20 billion debt

Edo State Governor, Prof Osariehmen Osunbor has described the Supreme Court's judgment that ousted former Rivers State Governor, Celestine Omehia from office as a good development meant to strengthen the nation's democratic institution.

Speaking with aviation correspondents Friday afternoon, Osunbor said the judgment should, as a matter of principle, be accepted in good faith, pointing out that the judiciary remains the final arbiter for conflicting issues.

His words: "We're happy that democarcy is thriving in the country. We're nurturing it for the betterment of our nation. There is no cause for alarm over the verdict," he said.
Governor Osunbor also debunked mounting claims that there were squabbles within Edo State chapter of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), adding that as the leader of the party in the state, he would ensure that it remained strong and focused as ever.
The Governor said the preoccupation of the state was the forthcoming council elections slated for December 15.

On the empty treasury coupled with huge debts that greeted him on assumption of office, Osunbor said the state is striving hard to make some progress within its very limited resources.
"When I came in, I inherited N11 billion internal debt, USD 34 million and another N5 billion as commitment. So you can do the calculations to see what I inherited," he said.
