Group berates Edo deputy gov over comments on Igbinedion

The Coalition for Good Governance and Economic Justice has berated the Edo State Deputy Governor, Mr Lucky Imasuen, for his tirade against the immediate past governor of the state, Chief Lucky Igbinedion.

The Coalition for Good Governance and Economic Justice has berated the Edo State Deputy Governor, Mr Lucky Imasuen, for his tirade against the immediate past governor of the state, Chief Lucky Igbinedion.

Imasuen had in an interview dismissed the Igbinedion administration in which he served as Chief of Staff for a year and 10 months as a failure.

In a press statement by Mr. Paul Dada, the Secretary of the Coalition, it stated that the interview by the deputy governor, 'rather than denigrate the person of the former governor, has exposed the folly of Mr Imasuen . It is unfortunate that a man who should bury his head in shame for metamorphosing from a failed governorship candidate to a Chief of Staff and now an opportunist deputy governor would be casting aspersion on the man who rescued him from political obscurity."

The Coalition further stated that 'it is an infantile argument, untenable and lame excuse, for the deputy governor to claim that he was only a Chief of Staff in the Igbinedion-led government and as such should be excused from any short coming of the government.

'One would have expected that Imasuen would have resigned his position as chief of staff to Igbinedion when he discovered that the government was not living up to its expectation. In fact, it is even a shame that Imasuen accepted to serve as Chief of Staff to the former governor of the state, after his earlier claims that Igbinedion robbed him of victory in the 1999 governorship election in the state."

The statement added: 'It is obvious that if Igbinedion had not forwarded Imasuen name to the party leadership, when the party gave him the opportunity of recommending somebody to run on the Osunbor ticket, the incumbent deputy governor who is now biting the hand that fed him would have by now, fizzled out politically as Osunbor never wanted him.

One is sure that Imasuen had to bad-mouth Igbinedion apparently to warm himself into the heart of Governor Osunbor in whose government he is fast becoming a stranger."
The group challenged the state's number two man to explain to the people his alleged role in the plunder of the state owned Bendel Brewery and the N128 million contract awarded to him for the building of a multi purpose hall in the Institute of Management and Technology, Usen.

It also challenged the deputy governor to tell the Edo people what the present government has done with the over N16 billion it has gotten from the Federation Account in the past five months when it has been in the saddle.
