The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has called on Nigerians to be cautious in buying consumables as the festive seasons approach, citing the period as one when producers of fake and substandard products try to make profits.

NAFDAC Enforcement Unit Director, Pharm. Dioka Ejionueme spoke during the destruction of fake and substandard and expired products worth about N249, 406, 119.20 at Sagamu, Ogun State destruction site on Wednesday.

He said: "Nigerians should be more vigilant in procuring regulated products as the festive season approaches because dubious and unpatriotic Nigerians always capitalize on the season to pass fake and substandard products into circulation."
Ejionueme stated that the agency is leaving no stone unturned to checkmate every nefarious plan of these wicked Nigerians, adding that "NAFDAC has stepped up its surveillance in markets across the country and anyone caught selling substandard products will be dealt with accordingly."

As a way of ensuring good quality in what they buy, the NAFDAC director further advised consumers to always look out for the manufacturing and expiry dates, full location addresses and NAFDAC registration numbers on such products. The agency, he pointed out should be contacted whenever there is a reasonable doubt about the quality of any regulated product.
