The rift between two wives of the late President of the Senate, Chief Evan Enwerem, was blown open when children of the two wives engaged in a physical combat during the burial of the politician on Friday.

The people, who escorted the corpse from Owerri to Atta in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State, the deceased's country home, became embarrassed by the attitude of the children before the guests at the burial.

The trouble started when one of Enwerem's wives was prevented from seeing his corpse at the lying-in-state. Her children violently resisted the action.

This led to a physical confrontation between the children of the two wives in the presence of guests. Saturday Tribune correspondent in Owerri, the Imo State capital, who went to Atta for the coverage of the burial, reported that the guests had to intervene to stop the fight that ensued.

Owing to this, the arrival of the corpse for the church service at St Paul's Anglican Church, where the Bishop of Owerri, the Rt.Rev.Cyril Okorocha, later presided, was delayed.

In his sermon, Okorocha condemned the action of the wives and the children in the glare of the visitors.
