President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua on Tuesday forwarded to the Senate names of 62 nominees for appointment as new ambassadors.
Senate President, David Mark, who read Yar'Adua's letter in the Senate chamber announced that 40 of the ambassadorial nominees are politicians, while the rest are career diplomats.
Senator Mark said that the ambassadorial list would be referred to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs for screening.
Notable among the ambassadorial nominees are former presidential aspirant and ex-military administrator of Lagos State, Brig.-Gen. Muhammed Buba Marwa, National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dr Ahmadu Ali, former Defence Minister, Dr Rabiu Kwankwaso, former Aviation Minister, Kema Chikwe, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro and Brig.-Gen. Oluwole Rotimi.
Also on the list are former Foreign Affairs Minister, Prof. Joy Ogwu, Senate or PolyCarp Nwite, Senator Dalhatu Tafida, Maj. Gen. Timothy Shelpidi and Mrs Folake Marcus-Bello
