Seriki, Odom, Orubebe named ministerial nominees

Three new ministerial nominees were on Tuesday forwarded to the Senate for screening by President Umaru Yar'Adua.

Three new ministerial nominees were on Tuesday forwarded to the Senate for screening by President Umaru Yar'Adua.

The nominees are Ademola Rasaq Seriki (Lagos), Chuka Julius Odom (Abia) and Peter Godsday Orubebe (representing South-South zone). Odom, if confirmed by the Senate, would be in the Yar'Adua cabinet on the ticket of the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA), which is participating in the Government of National Unity (GNU).

The trio's nomination and possible confirmation would bring to a close appointment of ministers by the Yar'Adua administration.

Senate President, David Mark announced on Tuesday that the fresh nominees would be called upon to appear before the Senate for screening which will be televised live to the public.
With Seriki's nomination as minister and Senator Musiliu Obanikoro as ambassador, the long-drawn battle over who represents Lagos State in the federal cabinet appears to have ended.

The second slot of Lagos became a subject of controversy after the Senate rejected nomination of Bode Agusto, a former aide of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo.
