Nigerian students detained over double murders

Malaysian police have detained two Nigerian foreign students believed to have murdered a single mother and her female housemate in their home while her two children hid in the bedroom, reports said Tuesday.

KUALA LUMPUR (dpa) - Malaysian police have detained two Nigerian foreign students believed to have murdered a single mother and her female housemate in their home while her two children hid in the bedroom, reports said Tuesday.

Ang Chin Ping, 36, and her housemate, 32-year-old Wong Tan Yong, were stabbed to death in their flat in central Kuala Lumpur.

Ang's two children, a four-year-old girl and six-year-old boy, were hiding in the bedroom when Ang was dragged out from her room in the pre-dawn attacks Monday, the Star daily said.

When Ang's sister came to check on her later, the young children ran out and conveyed what had taken place.

Ang's naked body was found sprawled in the hall while Wong was also found dead in another room, said city criminal investigations chief Ku Chin Wah.

Two Nigerian male students, who lived two floors below the victims' flat and were often seen visiting both women since they moved in two months ago, were detained several hours later.

Police also recovered a blood-stained knife in the flat.

Ku said neighbours said they heard arguments in Ang's flat at around midnight, adding that police were waiting for the post mortem reports to determine if Ang, who works as a beautician, was raped before she was stabbed.

Initial investigations showed that the assailants took identity cards belonging to Ang and Wong and their handphones.
