OWERRI - Imo State Police Command says it has uncovered a plot by some militants operating in the Niger Delta region to infiltrate the state and make life very uncomfortable for the people.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Donald Iroham, in an interview in Owerri, also called for vigilance from members of the public."This Command has uncovered a plot by some militants operating in the Niger Delta region to infiltrate Imo State, unleash terror and make life very uncomfortable and unsafe for the citizenry", Mr. Iroham said. While urging Imo people, especially hoteliers, royal fathers, town union executives and patriotic citizens in the various communities, to resist the temptation of harbouring criminals in their midst, the Imo police boss also warned that anybody or group found to have aided or abetted the criminals in their nefarious acts would be treated as accomplices in the crime.
"This sordid plot was uncovered by plain clothed operatives who were posted on surveillance duties.
In line with this discovery, the Command has mapped out commensurate counter programme if the militants dare to come into the state", Iroham said.
According to him, 'we are determined to forestall the importation or exportation of the sordid happenings in the Niger Delta States to Imo State, which had remained insulated from the damnable acts since it commenced".
He warned that the Command was not taking the information lightly; pointing out that stiff opposition has already been put in place and assured that the militants would not go far in their ploy to disrupt the peace and tranquillity prevalent in the state.
"Hoodlums are therefore advised in their own interestto steer clear of the state. Those of them willing to surrender their arms will be received and counselled.
Parents, guardians and landlords are advised to report any suspicious character in their midst as they may be called to explain why they allowed such suspicious persons in their compounds", Iroham said.
