A seven-month-old baby boy, Godsgift Dima, on Thursday shot to death by a gang of four armed men who had stormed his parents' home in Ogoloma community, Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State.
A source close to the family told our corespondent that the hoodlums, suspected to be oil thieves, stormed the house and demanded money from his father.
The hoodlums were said to have insisted that their mission in the community was only to attack Dima‘s home.
They demanded that the toddler‘s father should give them an undisclosed amount of money.
When he could not produce the money, the gunmen reportedly opened fire on him, his wife and their baby.
The source said, 'All I was able to gather was that the robbers entered Dima‘s house in the middle of the night, demanded for money and when he failed to bulge, they shot the three of them, including their baby. Unfortunately, it was only this innocent creature that died."
Our correspondent learnt that the parents of the child had been taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.
Attempts to speak with the Police Public Relations Officers in the state, Mrs. Ireju Barasua, failed as she did not pick calls made to her telephone.
Meanwhile, the son of the paramount ruler of Evo Kingdom and former Rivers State Deputy Governor, Eze Frank Eke, who was abducted by unknown gunmen on Tuesday, has been released.
