Dare-devil armed robbers, on Wednesday disrupted the serene atmosphere of the foremost University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan and attacked the branch of an old generation bank situated within the hospital.

Eye-witnesses told Daily Sun, that the robbers struck around 1.15p.m, shortly after a bullion van conveying salaries of UCH workers, arrived the bank premises.

They succeeded in carting away all the money. In the process, two persons sustained gunshots injuries arising from sporadic shootings from the men of the underworld while several others also got injured while scampering into safety. They were all rushed to the Accident and Casualty section of the hospital for treatment.

Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the hospital, Mr. Kunle Atinwore, confirmed the incident when contacted, saying the armed robbers succeeded in carting away the money brought by the bullion van for the payment of the staff of the hospital.

In his reaction to the incident yesterday, Oyo State Commissioner of Police (CP), Prince Udom Ekpoudom, described it as ‘a bad and unfortunate incident'.
He said his men were informed very late by the bank and UCH authorities making it difficult for them to track down the underworld men.

'But we are closing in on the robbers. They came on two motor-cycles while another car was following them from behind, providing cover for them. We are on top of the situation. As of now adequate security has been provided within and around the hospital so that people can go about their lawful businesses. It is an unfortunate incident," the police boss stated.
