LAGOS State Police Command has arrested a syndicate which specialises in importation of human heads from the neighbouring Benin Republic into Lagos.
Nemesis caught up with Bronako Wesudi from Togo and Kopler Gobdu from Benin Republic who were caught by Police detectives in Mile 2 area with a near-fresh human head.
Bronaco who carried the head in his hand when the duo were paraded by the Police, however said it was the head of his father.
"It is the head of my late father who died one year ago. He was an albino. We were told that a native doctor in Nigeria could use the head for ritual purposes that would make me rich. So, I went and exhumed my father's body from the grave and contacted this my brother who stays in Lagos."
He added: "We went straight to Ijede, Ikorodu area where the medicine man stays. When he confirmed it was the head of an albino, he asked us to bring N30,000."
Bronaco continued: "When we brought the money, the medicine man rechecked the head and told us it is not fresh enough and cannot be used anymore for the rituals. It was then that we decided to take it back to Benin Republic. It was on our way back that the Police caught up with us."
The duo were paraded at the headquarters of the Lagos State Police Command - with the human head.
The state Police boss, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar who paraded them said: "We told you we are resolved to fighting all forms of crime and criminality in Lagos. This is one of the fruits of our effort. Our men on stop-and-search intercepted them at the Mile 2 park with this head. We are investigating the matter. More arrests would be made."
The police are trailing the native doctor with a view to getting more facts on the matter.
