FAAN cont-emplates auctioning abandoned aircraft littering airports across the country, was based on the danger such aircraft pose to flight safety.

The National Assembly had on July 4, mandated FAAN to remove all grounded aircrafts from the tarmac in all airports in the country within 30 days which expired on August 4.

However, FAAN in a swift reaction, gave a 90 day ultimatum to all owners of abandoned aircraft to remove them from airports failing which the authority will auction them.

Meanwhile, most airlines that failed to meet new capitalization policy of the federal government compell-ed them to stop flight operations may have to loose their aircraft to FAAN. Such airlines include Albar-ka Air, Dasab , Fresh Air, Spaceworld and Chrome Air.

There are other airlines that are grounded by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) over non payment of compensat-ion after they were involved in fatal crashes. Such airlines include ADC Airlines and Sosoliso airlines.
