Unlimited joy broke out in Bayelsa State Police command as recently promoted officers were decorated with their new ranks.
The joy was however, more visible on the faces of Moses Jituboh, Douye Kpokpo, Miller Dantawaye and Andrew Oborodudu, who, though unassuming, toiled day and night to achieve excellence.
Jituboh, the security officer of the governor, was elevated from Deputy Superintendent of Police to Superintendent of Police. The trio of Kpokpo, Dantewaye and Oborodudu became Deputy Superintendents of Police.
Governor Diepreye Alamieyeseigha while decorating the first three, who are workers in Government House, charged them to be more visionary and diligent. He explained that the prevalence of hunger, poverty and injustice within the system has increased the challenges of men of the force.
Alamieyeseigha, who noted that the promoted officers were dutiful, competent officers with a high sense of discipline and integrity, reminded them that promotion was a call to higher responsibilities and urged them to be focused and decisive in decision making.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Oliver Osuchukwu, charged the officers to be upright and diligent, pointing out that with the promotion, more was excepted of the officers.
The joy of Andrew Oborodudu, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) was without bounds. In an interview with Daily Sun, he described the promotion as a morale booster from the Police.
'The new rank is exciting as far as I am concerned; it is a morale booster from the Nigeria Police.
The greatest moment of an officer is when he is elevated to the next rank. And we thank God, for it is His doing. We thank the Federal Government, the Police Service Commission for considering us fit to be promoted to the next rank," he said.
He accepted the challenge posed by the governor and the Commissioner of Police that more is expected of promoted officers.
'When one is elevated, one is expected to perform much better than the former rank, as far as I am concerned, it is a time for more challenges. Promotion goes with added duties and commitments. And to succeed, one has to marry the job like a dutiful husband", he said.
Oborodudu also has some words for other officers: 'My advice to other officers is that they should be diligent, committed and dedicated to the job. When these three things are combined there is no way an officer would not achieve successful results.
