Ilorin - Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Prof Charles Soludo yesterday said henceforth he has decided to maintain sealed lips over the controversies that surrounded the suspended CBN's Naira re-denomination policy.

His decision was coming just as he maintained that whether Nigerians like it or not, the economy of the country would remain at snail speed, except that the people are ready to take up the challenges facing us as a developing economy.

Reeling out various economic policies, the CBN has embarked upon and those it intends to pursue, he declared that the legal practitioners in the country cannot afford to play a back bench role, since they ' are the orbit on which the smooth implementation of our (legal) policies revolve."

Soludo who was a guest speaker at the on-going annual general conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital said 'we must fix the legal infrastructure in the country. You can preach from now till eternity, nothing would change in this country."

At the beginning of his address, before the full capacity hall of the Kwara Hotel, he issued a caveat that 'nothing would make me speak on the Naira policy for the time being. Some people here expected that I would talk about the Naira re-denomination policy. But I will not, sorry for disappointing you. The fact remains that Mr President has suspended the measure and it will therefore remains suspended. I will keep myself to the topic before me. May be next year, I will talk about it."

Insisting on his point lawyers who asked questions from him, even not directly with the controversial policy after his presentation were also disappointed.

He said ' I know these questions are put to me to get me speak on the Naira policy, I would not be conscripted and drafted to talk on it. As the president said it remain suspended." The development elicited a lot of noise by the gathering.

He submitted in his presentation ' for us to swim out of the mess in our financial sector, we need to establish commercial courts in all the state of the federation."
