Over one hundred and twenty thousand people have been affected by HIV/Aids virus in Bauchi state, according to the project director, Medical and Health Workers Union in Bauchi state, Comrade Garba Dass.

The project coordinator stated this while exchanging views with the chairman, State Civil Service Commission (CSC) and the chairman Local Government Service Commission Alhaji Mudi Abdullahi and Alhaji Ahmed Suleiman in Bauchi.
According to the statistics, about 11,000 children are orphans whose parents died of HIV/AIDS ; 11,792 people died of HIV; 11,504 pregnant women are infected with HIV/AIDS and 18,206 people are currently receiving anti retroviral drugs (AVR) in government hospitals free of charge.
Comrade Garba Dass said the Bauchi state government has played a crucial role in reducing the menace of HIV by creating enabling environment and increasing the resources allocated to the fight against HIV in the state.
Comrade Dass said the commitment of the project to enlighten the public on the menace of the disease led them to contact the policy makers and prompted their visit to the commissions' chairmen.
In their separate remarks the chairmen of the state civil service commission, Alhaji Mudi Abdullahi, and the chairman of the local government service commission, Alhaji Ahmed Suleiman pledged to support the project in fighting HIV in Bauchi state.
