18 men accused of attending a gay wedding dressed as women went on trial in Nigeria yesterday.
People shouted abuse and hurled stones, which lead to Police using tear gas to control the crowd.
The judge freed 5 of the 18 men who met bail conditions the other 13 were sent back to prison.
The 18 men were arrested two weeks ago in a hotel room in Bauchi in the Northern part of Nigeria, which is governed by the Islamic Sharia law.
Although they were initially accused of sodomy, the charges have now been changed to "indecent dressing" or cross-dressing and "vagrancy".
The Sharia punishment for sodomy is death by stoning but the men will probably just get 30 lashes of the whip instead.
Homosexuality is still illegal in all parts of Nigeria; the judge has adjourned the case until September.
