Fifty students of the premier private university in Nigeria, Babcock, have passed various international certification examinations during an ICT Training Partnership programme between a training firm, New Horizons and the niversity. Two of the students scored 100 per cent in Cisco Certified Network Associate examinations.

The Managing Director of New Horizons, Tim Akano, said the outcome of the exams did not come as a surprise to him, as the students had been thoroughly trained by his firm.

He said New Horizons was prepared to do all that was necessary to fulfill the Federal Government's objective of transforming Nigeria into an ICT-driven nation worthy of global recognition.

He said according to IDC Report 2006, New Horizons is the world's No.1 ICT institution in the World, while it also bagged the best ICT Training Institution in Nigeria award for 2007. The firm has also won the ICT Training Institution award for West Africa twice.

Akano explained that the training giant was the initiator of the ICT Training Partnership in universities in Nigeria. The firm, he said, had partnered with seven universities since it began operations in the country in May 2005. The universities, according to him, include Babcock, Covenant, Crawford, Crescent, Lead City, University of Ibadan (UI), and the Lagos State University.

He said the essence of the partnership was to provide world class ICT Certification Training to university students while they were studying for their undergraduate degrees. The plan is to make it easy for them to get employment when they graduate as well as make it easy for them to integrate should they travel abroad.

Akano announced that while one of the two students who had excellent scores got a job with New Horizons, the other had immigrated to the USA.

He added that the skills acquired would assist the beneficiaries in developing their own hardware and software solutions or devices.
