Private ownership of airports in Nigeria is now possible, courtesy of permit granted the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), to charge private investors N100 million as construction permits.

Private ownership of airports in Nigeria is now possible, courtesy of permit granted the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), to charge private investors N100 million as construction permits.

In a statement made in Lagos yesterday, NCAA said the new service charge regime was granted it by the Federal Government.

The statement, signed by Mr Sam Adurogboye, NCAA Media Assistant , said prospective owners of airport would equally pay N25 million for licence, before such airport would be operational.

It said N30 million would be charged for the construction of airstrips and N5 million for licence, and private Helidecks N5 million and Helipads would attract N1 million.

``Expectedly, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), will be paying a renewal fee as stipulated herein forthwith on its airports,'' the statement said.

``Similarly aeronautical personnel, Air Traffic Controllers/Engineers, Security officers and fire service personnel working in the industry are not exempted under the new service regime,'' the statement said.

It added that consequent upon the development, air traffic control engineers and security officers are now to pay a licencing renewal fee of N20,000 annually..
