Residents of Port Harcourt are beginning to adjust to 7P.M to 6AM curfew imposed by the Rivers State Government Friday.
Announcing the imposition of the curfew in a statement issued in Port Harcourt, the state Commissioner for Information, Mr. Emma Okah said it would be for one week in the first instance.
The statement hinted, however, that those on essential services, especially Staff of Power Holding Company (PHCN) and medical personnel would be allowed movement, 'subject to proof of identity."
The government stated that the decision was aimed at consolidating and advancing the improved level of security in the state already achieved by security agencies particularly in Port Harcourt.
It thanked the Federal Government and the people of the state for their 'understanding, support and corporation".
The government advised members of the public to go about their lawful duties peaceably without fear.
Residents were, however, advised 'to ensure they conclude all their daily transactions and get to their homes before the commencement of the curfew and to adhere strictly to the period allowed for movement in order to avoid any embarrassment."
