Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Mike Kaose Aondoakoa has declared that his ministry was not competing with any agency under it, but it's out to ensure that the rule of law is upheld.

Reacting to the furore generated by his recent pronouncement that the ministry must vet all cases for prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Aondoakoa reiterated that he was not out to protect anybody neither did he have anything to hide.

He said: 'My action is purely in public interest and for the rule of law to be maintained. The role of all agencies in the ministry is to arrest, prosecute and arraign suspects in the court and not to pass judgement on them."

The minister said that often times, the EFCC acted outside the constitution and since the present administration has vowed to keep to the document, everything possible must be done to uphold it. He cited instances, where suspects were detained indefinitely in the past by the anti-graft body.
He said the EFCC Act gave powers to the AG to regulate its activities and wondered why his action has generated controversy.
