DNA test: Abiolas shun family meeting


Things appear to have fallen apart with the extended family of the late Chief M.K.O. Abiola in his hometown, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital over the DNA test controversy that has been raging since the death of the business mogul.

No fewer than 25 supposed children of the late publisher of the defunct Concord Newspapers were said to have failed the test allegedly conducted at the instance of the senior members of the late Are Ona kakanfo of Yorubaland.

The proposed meeting by the family yesterday in the ancient town of Egba could not hold as earlier scheduled because of disagreement among family members.

At the Sabo private home of the younger brother of the late business mogul, Alhaji Mubasiru Abiola, Daily Sun learnt that the meeting has been postponed till next week.

'The meeting will longer hold today (yesterday). It has been rescheduled till next week," a tall, dark young man who identified himself as Fatai at Mubashiru's house told Daily Sun about mid-day yesterday.

But sources told Daily Sun that the meeting was postponed because those who were supposed to attend have expressed unwillingness to attend such a meeting.
The late Abiola's immediate younger brother who was said to have supported the DNA test was also said to be out of town when Daily Sun visited his residence yesterday.

Meanwhile the publicity which the DNA test had so far generated did not go down well with a section of the Abiolas in Abeokuta who wondered 'why private matter should be made things of the public."
