Barely four days after a gang of four armed robbery suspects were killed by men of the anti-robbery squad of the Nigeria Police, Anambra State Command, another gang of five have been sent to the great beyond.

The gang of five met their waterloo in Onitsha on Wednesday as they tried to escape arrest by the police.

Disclosing the latest onslaught of the police against armed robbers in the state, the State Police Command image-maker, Fidelis Agbo (DSP), the armed robbery suspects were rounded as they wanted to run away on sighting police at a beer parlour where they were planning a robbery operation.

He said, 'on Wednesday, at about 2000 hours, the anti-robbery squad, Onitsha received an information that a gang of five armed robbers were at a beer parlour opposite Ben-J Hotel, GRA, Onitsha planning to carry out armed robbery operation in the state.

'A team of anti-robbery squad led by Supol Princewill Ekeocha (ASP) moved to the area, and on sighting the team, the bandits took to their heels, and was pursued, shot at, subdued and arrested."

Agbo disclosed that the wounded suspects were taken to the General Hospital Onitsha where they later died while taking treatment, adding that their corpses have been removed to the public mortuary for autopsy.

The police he further said recovered from the robbery suspects, two locally made double barrel pistols, three live cartridges, two Kymco motorcycles with registration numbers Anambra QL589ATN, and Anambra UD961NNE, which were suspected to have been snatched from their owners.

The police image-maker, however, called on the people whose motorcycles might have been stolen to go to anti-robbery squad office, Onitsha to verify and collect them.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Amusa Bello had warned all criminals, who do not want to change to leave the state as the state was no longer safe for them.
He said, 'Any armed robber who refuses to change his or her life and remain in the state will be killed, no mercy for them."
