Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar says that ex-Minister of Petroleum and serving senator, Prof Jibril Aminu, is not his match in politics and therefore does not merit a reply over his recent utterances.
Senator Aminu had, while speaking with our sister publication, Saturday Sun, foreclosed the possibility of Atiku returning to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Said Aminu in that interview: 'Honestly, if he (Atiku) even thinks of com
ing back to the PDP, the people of Adamawa will mobilise against him. People like me, especially, will ensure that he does not come back. We cannot welcome him back into the party."
Atiku, while asked to react to Aminu's comments, through his media aide, Mallam Garuba Shehu, said: 'We will not join issues with Aminu. Atiku is not Aminu's mate in politics."
According to the former vice president, after a critical review of Aminu's comments, 'we decided we don't want to be drawn into any controversy with Aminu, that will be giving him an undue attention," adding: 'We have more and better things to engage our attention now than joining issues with Jibril Aminu, who is no match. Atiku is definitely not his match to engage him in any controversy. We won't say more than that."
Shehu added that Aminu should look for his political mates elsewhere to engage in war of words.
There has been no love lost between the two Adamawa politicians since the battle for control of the state politics began in 2005 between Atiku's supporters and others backed by the government of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo.
The latest attack on Atiku may be the fallout of his return to Adamawa, where he is said to be mobilising to dislodge the PDP at the election petition tribunal.
