BAYELSA State governor, Chief Tinipre Sylva weekend said the release of ex-governor Diepreye Alamieyeseigha would douse the current tension in the Niger Delta region.
Reacting to the development in Yenagoa, the state capital Sylva said the gesture would enable the ex-governor get better medical treatment.
He thanked the federal government for listening to the agitations of people of the Niger Delta region with the release of the former governor and Ijaw militant leader, Alhaji Mujaheed Dokubo Asari.
He described Alamieyeseigha as an elder statesman, whose advice and contributions are still needed in the quest to develop the state.
Meanwhile, hundreds of Bayelsans, especially the people of Amassoma, Alamieyeseigha's country home who waited in high expectations to see their son weekend were disappointed as they waited in vain as the former governor failed to return home.
But in Yenagoa, the state capital, social and economic activities continued.
