The Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission [ICPC] will today arraign a Lagos socialite, Emmanuel Nwude and his lawyer, Emmanuel Ofulue, for allegedly offering bribe to the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission [EFCC], Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and the Director of Operations of the Commission, Mr Ibrahim Lamorde, in an attempt to pervert justice.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission [ICPC] will today arraign a Lagos socialite, Emmanuel Nwude and his lawyer, Emmanuel Ofulue, for allegedly offering bribe to the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission [EFCC], Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and the Director of Operations of the Commission, Mr Ibrahim Lamorde, in an attempt to pervert justice.
Specifically, the bribe was to influence the case of fraud perpetrated on a Brazilian bank that was being investigated by the EFCC.
Counsel to Nwude, Emmanuel Ofulue, was alleged to have on three different occasions offered thousands of British pounds sterling, thousands of United States dollars and thousands of Nigerian naira to Mallam Nuhu Ribadu and Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde respectively, in order to clear his client in the fraud perpetrated on Banco Noroeste S.A. Sao Paulo, Brazil.
In a six count charge preferred against the two accused persons and signed by Mr. Bayo Taiwo, senior legal officer on behalf of ICPC, the two accused persons were said to have conspired to commit a criminal offence contrary to section 9 and punishable under section 26(i),(c ) of the ICPC Act 2000.
Meanwhile, the Commission has lost one of its members, Alhaji Abdul-Rasheed Kolawole Saba (MON), who passed on at the age of 64 in Lagos last Friday.
The late Saba, a retired director general, joined ICPC in 2001. Alhaji Saba, a recipient of the Member of the Order of the Niger (MON), was born on October 25th, 1943 in Lagos. He served in the public service before he retired as Director-General in the Federal Ministry of Environment.
The Chairman of the Commission, Hon. Justice Emmanuel Ayoola, while addressing staff of the Commission, extolled the virtues of the late Saba, saying that 'his wise counsel had always been much appreciated in all deliberations. He was a quiet, wise, intelligent, and experienced person. '
He was buried last Friday in accordance with Islamic rites.
