nate on Wednesday strongly objected to what it termed unguarded utterances by President Olusegun Obasanjo, warning him to henceforth desist from making comments that tend to raise doubts about the sincerity of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government to hold free and fair elections in April.
The president is on record as saying that the 2007 elections would be "a do-or-die affairs."
This statement from Mr. President is too strong. It sends wrong signals. Politicians should be careful what we say or do.
No one is perfect "For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.
"Behold we put bits in the horses' mouths, that they may obey us: and we turn about their whole body.
"Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, wither so ever the governor listeth.
"Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things, Behold how great a mater a little fire kindleth. And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity.
So is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body and seteth on fire the course of nature and it is set on fire of hell" James 3:2-6
A wholesome tongue is a tree of life Prov. 15:4. And death and life are in the power of the tongue. Prov. 18:21 whosoever keepeth his tongue keepeth his soul. Prov. 21:23.
Because this year is crucial politicians should be careful how they manage the affairs of the nation. A good man guides his affairs with discretion." Psm. 112:5. More than ever before we need prayers for our leaders and the nation.
Let our leaders think about the future of this nation and our children. They should take heed to themselves as the electioneering campaigns intensify. They should not destroy what took decades to build..
