I'll continue taking orders from Obasanjo, says Daniel

Amidst speculations that ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo has lost grip of his state, Governor Gbenga Daniel

He spoke yesterday during a commemoration service to mark the confirmation of the Olowu of Owu, Oba Olusanya Adegboyega Dosunmu as the Olowu of Owu Kingdom.
According to Danie,l who described Oba Dosunmu as consistent and highly principled, the ex-president would continue to be the father of the state.

'We will continue to take instruction from our Baba whether in or out of office," he said, adding that his administration and the state would continue to be proud of him.
Daniel expressed delight at what he described as noticeable reforms the Olowu had introduced into Owu communities adding: 'There is no doubt in my mind that Oba Dosunmu is most consistent and most principled royal father."

Apparently referring to the controversy generated by the appointment of 12 coronet obas by Oba Dosunmu, Daniel said: 'Of course in the course of this, a few feather will be ruffled. In all honesty, you have done well."

The governor implored the paramount ruler to step up the spirit of reconciliation and build a state of consensus 'so that whatever we do at any point in time is something that we will all be proud of."
Meanwhile, Governor Daniel has inaugurated a 16-member cabinet with a promise to establish the Ministry of Water Resources and Rural Development that will tackle the problem of water scarcity in the state.
Daniel told the new members of the state cabinet that they should know that they have a very short period of time within which to either shape up or lose out.

His words: 'From now on, longevity in the cabinet will be a function of performance, loyalty, manifest competence and commitment to our ideals. You should prepare for changes, those who will last long are those cabinet members who can learn to adapt and add value to our 'agenda for a secured future."

He said his administration was starting 'this second term with re-doubled energy to improve on our attainments in the last four years and to put in place enduring legacies that testify to our purpose driven governance."

Four of the inaugurated commissioners, retained their portfolio during the first term of the governor. They are Messrs. Bukola Olopade, Kayode Samuel, Dr. Abiodun Oduwole and Mr. Akin Osibajo.
