Mark wants harmony between legislators, govs

Senate President, David Mark has called on the various state governors to ensure that they maintain a good relationship with their National Assembly members, saying that the avoidable squabbles between the executive and the legislature since 1999 was responsible for the backwardness recorded in the last eight years of the country's democratic experiment.

He made the call yesterday when he received Taraba State Governor Danbaba Danfulani Suntai in his office.
He noted that there was no need for friction between a governor and a Senator because the constitution clearly defined each of their roles.

'If the governor and the legislators work together, the people will benefit, if not, the people will suffer. So, there is no need for squabbles since we were all elected to serve," Mark said.

He also decried border clash between some communities in Taraba and Benue states and urged combatants to sheathe their swords and embrace peace, even as he urged the leaders in the area to have the courage to stand on the path of truth and resolve the problems once and for all.

Earlier, Taraba State governor, praised Mark for his steadfastness and excellent service in public life and asked him to be guided by the principles of equity and justice in the discharge of his assignment.
