Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has emerged the new chairman of the Board of Trustees (BOT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Immediate past Governor of Nassarawa State, Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu will serve as secretary.

This is some sort of ‘coup' as Chief Anthony Anenih was only on Monday announced as chairman of the BOT by party secretary, Chief Ojo Maduekwe.

Wednesday's meeting took place without Chief Anenih in attendance.

Reliable sources hinted Daily Sun that earlier on Tuesday, Chief Anenih, apparently in exercise of powers as the subsisting BOT chairman, had called for board's meeting to hold on Wednesday at 8pm but as events turned out, the meeting held at the Transcop Hotel between 10.30am and 2.30pm. It was the first time the BOT meeting will hold in the day time outside the presidential villa.

Daily Sun learnt that former President Obasanjo, holed up on the 3rd floor of the Transcorp hotel since Tuesday, had put pressure on "friendly" members of the BOT to hold the meeting in the morning and not night.

In fact, up till 11.30am some members of the BOT were not sure whether the meeting will take place while others were said to have been informed about the meeting Wednesday morning. Daily Sun learnt that even Professor Jerry Gana, who was supposed to be the outgoing secretary of the BOT was only informed of the meeting around 9a.m on Wednesday.

The meeting took place amidst tight security as both President Yar'Adua and the VP were in attendance.

Other people in attendance include, former governor Adamu Muazu (Bauchi), Anyim Pius Anyim, Evans Enwerem, former senate presidents, Ibrahim Mantu, former Akwa Ibom governor Victor Attah, Augustus Aikhomu, Chief Olabode George, Dr Ahmadu Ali, party scribe, Ojo Maduekwe, Senate President David Mark, Speaker, House of Representatives, Patricia Etteh, Chief Vincent Ogbulafor, former FCT minister, Architect Ibrahim Bunu, among others.

National Secretary of PDP, Chief Ojo Maduekwe confirmed the emergence of the new leadership of the BOT.

He said in a statement at 6.08pm local time that former president, Olusegun Obasanjo has accepted the position. Obasanjo, according to the statement, promised to bring all his experiences to bear in moving the party forward.
