Man kills lover over sex

A 45-year-old former mortuary attendant at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, Mr. Michael Ojingirin, has been held by Oyo State police for allegedly killing his lover over N200,000.

A 45-year-old former mortuary attendant at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, Mr. Michael Ojingirin, has been held by Oyo State police for allegedly killing his lover over N200,000.

He allegedly perpetrated the act in May, this year in his farm in the Akinsa Ogbere area of Ibadan.
The suspect was said to have lent N200,000 to his lover, Nike Funmilayo, 35, who later came back to demand another N62,000 with the pledge to make love with him. But she did not keep her promise.

Daily Sun gathered that it was the unfulfilled promise that infuriated Ojingirin, who lured her to his farm and used a cutlass to cut her throat.

However, the suspect could not get away with the dastardly act as a palm-wine tapper, who saw him committing the heinous act, called him by his name and raised alarm which attracted the villagers.

The suspect, Daily Sun further gathered, hurriedly wrapped the body with her clothes and buried her remains in a shallow grave few metres from the scene of the crime before the arrival of the villagers.
It was the villagers who reported the incident at Yemetu Police Station.

The suspect, a native of Kogi State, claimed that he had spent much money on the victim during their courtship, alleging that she had always denied him sex. He alleged that the victim borrowed N200,000 from him and refused to pay back only to request for another N62,000 but refused to have sex with him as agreed.

He said: "She came to my farm again for money. She has been denying me sex. I used the opportunity to kill her in my farm."
Ojingirin, who said he had three wives and children, disclosed that he spent 10 years at UCH, Ibadan, as a mortuary attendant before he resigned voluntarily "because of the atrocities I committed there."
He explained that he was not married to the victim who, he alleged, was always coming to him with one lie or another, with a view to extorting money from him.

His story was different: "She came to demand N62,000. I asked her to write an undertaking that she would have sex with me. After that, I didn't set my eyes on her. It was when she came to the farm again that I used the cutlass to inflict injury on her. I quickly went to buy iodine and bandages to treat her. Before I could come back, she had died."
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Jonathan Johnson, said the suspect would be charged for murder after investigations.
