...Who will save this young lady?

Mercy Onu, 25, from Izzi in Abakiliki Ebonyi State, dropped out of secondary school as a result of an ailment doctors diagnosed as amelloblastomo. Actually, the strange ailment had disfigured her face, leaving her no choice than to seek for treatment instead of worrying about education.

In an effort to find a solution to an ailment she suspected was inflicted on her by enemies, she applied various native concoctions and ended up at University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), Enugu, where doctors demanded over N600, 000. 00.

However, frustrated by the enormity of pains she undergoes and the social stigma caused by the ailment, the distraught girl sought an alternative and finally found one at Akaeze Ebonyi State, at a private clinic at the cost of N250, 000. 00, where she believes a permanent cure could be obtained since the doctor had handled similar cases. Consequently, Onu is asking good Nigerians to come to her aid to raise the amount.

Her story: 'I was not doing anything at the time it started like a pimple on my cheek. My mother is dead and my father married another woman. We are five, two boys and three girls from the same mother and I am the first daughter. My immediate elder brother is a car washer and my father is a farmer in the village.

I was first treated with local herbs without cure and ended up at UNTH, where I was told to pay N600, 000 for the treatment before I was directed to a private clinic at Akaeze, to see one Dr. Arochukwu who had treated some people with the disease and he told me to pay N250, 000. I can't afford such an amount since I don't have any business or anybody to help me out. I am therefore, appealing to good spirited Nigerians to come to my aid."
