The presence of pregnant cows among the herd of cattle taken from Plateau State to Lagos for sale has led to the arrest of a traditional chief who is the head of cattle rustlers in Shendam Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The chief of Dilori, Nanman Goesur who is said to have been organizing raiding activities along Shendam route since the period of Plateau crisis was arrested with four other persons.

According to Plateau State Police Commissioner, Joseph Apapa, one Abdullahi Blage in Bolori Village in Shendam Local Government Area had reported that his cattle comprising 32 cows and eleven sheep were stolen when unknown persons attacked his settlement.

While the police were still investigating the crime, a signal was received from Lagos that some men had presented cows at a popular cattle market for sale.

The traders, while examining the cows discovered that some of them were pregnant. This raised suspicion that the cattle could have been stolen because Fulanis do not sell pregnant cows.

While the traders were still asking the sellers to wait for their money, they reported the case to the police and a signal was sent to Plateau State to find out if some cows had been stolen recently.

When the Lagos command was informed that some cow rustlers were on the wanted list, the three men who took the cattle to Lagos for sale were instantly arrested.

Upon investigation, it was discovered that the chief of Dilori was the person that organised the raid while one Selvan Danjuma led the operation.

The two of them were rounded up with the others who took the cows to Lagos for sale.

According to the police, all the cows except one, were returned to the owner. It was discovered that the thieves to augment their transportation to Lagos slaughtered one of them.

The five men would soon appear in court.
