Senate receives ministerial list

President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua is expected to forward the list of those that would serve in his cabinet as ministers to the Senate on Tuesday.

President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua is expected to forward the list of those that would serve in his cabinet as ministers to the Senate on Tuesday.

According to sources, ordinarily the list should have gotten to the Senate President, David Mark, by Monday evening, but that President Yar'Adua may just delay it till Tuesday, when he was likely to host Mark to a breakfast and formally hand over the list to him.
Although details of the list were sketchy as at press time. Daily Sun, gathered that none of the former governors eventually made it. Sources, however, indicate that a few of the former ministers are set to stage a come-back.

Once the list gets to the Senate on Tuesday, the upper house is expected to commence screening of the nominees this week.
Meanwhile, there are strong indications that the naming of the long awaited standing committees of the Senate and their chairmen may not hold on Tuesday.

Daily Sun gathered that the delay in naming the committees and their chairmen may not be unconnected with the inability of the minority parties to formally present their leadership to the Senate.
Daily Sun, recalls that the minority parties only elected their leaders after the Senate had adjourned plenary, shortly after inauguration.

The standing committees as operated by the last Senate under Ken Nnamani, Daily Sun further learnt would be retained. Mark had indicated shortly after his inauguration that the 57 standing committees would be pruned down to about 30.

But he was said to have decided otherwise because of the desire to carry every senator along. As at the last count, each state was expected to produce at least one committee chairman each, with members of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) given preference.
