Fuel price hike: Poly students give FG ultimatum

The National Association of Polytechnics Students (NAPS) has given the Federal Government ultimatum to revoke the recent hike in fuel price.

The student apex body noted that the recent increase in fuel price and VAT rate in the dying days of Obasanjo's administration has brought much problems and constraints to the mobility and feeding of the entire students across the country.

(NAPS), the statement added, 'wants to state categorically and emphatically that due to the negative impact the recent increase in fuel price and VAT rate has brought to the totality of Nigerian students, the increment is hereby unacceptable, uncalled for and uneconomical, and therefore the students apex body will not tolerate it, as we see it as a sign of victimization, oppression of the masses of the country."
The statement issued by Prince P.A. Yakubu, National President, NAPS read further:

'For all this afore-mentioned reasons, the students apex body at an emergency meeting in Abuja hereby unanimously agreed to give the Federal Government of Nigeria seven days ultimatum to revert the fuel price and the VAT rate because the increment has brought deadlock to the entire citizens of the country.

'The body had also agreed that after the expiration of the seven days ultimatum, and nothing visible and generally accepted by the citizen of the country is being done, they will mobilise students across the country to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja for a protest and will also shut down all institutions in the country to really show to the Federal Government that the increment is generally unacceptable by the masses."
