Two policemen attached to the state Criminal Investigations Department (SCID), Panti, Lagos, were shot dead on Wednesday, when they encountered a gang of armed robbers operating on motorbikes, on the Third Mainland Bridge.
Two policemen attached to the state Criminal Investigations Department (SCID), Panti, Lagos, were shot dead on Wednesday, when they encountered a gang of armed robbers operating on motorbikes, on the Third Mainland Bridge.
According to reports, the slain policemen identified as Sergeants Saliu Awotuyi and Nasiru Oyafunke were on patrol on the bridge early in the morning, when they sighted three suspicious motorbikes speeding towards the patrol team.
The victims were said to have alerted other members of the team, but they hesitated, thinking the riders could be innocent civilians.
When they decided to find out who the suspicious riders were, the policemen fired into the air but got the shock of their lives, as the bandits fired back and got the two members of the team.
After the shocker, the robbers escaped and the policemen died as they were being rushed to the hospital.
