Nigerian Names  |  Male  |  Female  |  Unisex | Igbo | Hausa | Yoruba | Edo | Efik

Meaning:

This is not my name, but rather the name of a woman I met in America.  BTW, I am white Amerian, she appears to be mixed race. What struck me was that in the US, the female version of Duane is rather Duana, ending with "a".  Because she tells people she is hispanic, but does not even speak a drop of Spanish, I became suspicious.  She said, however, that her grandmother was Kenyan of mixed race, adding spontaneously, "Kenyan, yes."  This sounded to me not like she is lying purposely, but rather as if she somehow has the impression of African ancestry, but, is wrong about the tribal and geographic antecedents.  That is, the forebears of this lady's grandmother were likely Nigerian and Yoruban, not Kenyan.  I am not thereby dictating that Duane is Nigerian, bt rather inferring. I could be wrong, for sure.
