Atangamuerimo Harrison (1933-)
Obstetrician
and gynaecologist, he was professor of obstetrics and gynaecology,
first in University of Ibadan in 1972, next in Ahmadu Bello
University, Zaria, in 1972-1981, and from then onwards in
University of Port Harcourt where he became a vice chancellor
in 1989. He won universal acclaim including D.Sc.London in
1988, for his work on severe anaemia in pregnancy and on social
obstetrics, and for his powerful advocacy on safe motherhood
through poverty eradication and universal formal education
in the Third World.
