Etim Nyong Bassey, chemical engineer, 66, May 11. Born in Oron, Akwa Ibom State, he was educated at Methodist Boys High School, Oron, 1960-1966; Khartov State University, USSR, 1969-1970; Lvov Polytechnic Institute, USSR, 1970-1974; Bradford University, Bradford, England, UK, 1983-1986. Bassey started his career as a teacher, Salvation Army Secondary School, Eket, 1967-1968; teacher, Hope Waddell Training Institute, Calabar, Cross River State,1968-1969; appointed chemical engineer, Nortex Nigeria Limited, Kaduna, 1974-1975; planning engineer, Nigerian Steel Development Authority, Lagos/ Ajaokuta, 1975-1979; construction and erection engineer, Delta Steel Company, DSC, 1979-1987;assistant general manager, research & quality control, 1988-1995; deputy general manager, technical services & environment, DSC, 1995-1996. Bassey is a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers; member, Council of Registered Engineers of Nigeria, COREN.
